Last March, in conjunction with our concert, A Woman’s World, you joined us in raising $17,000 to support women in regions of conflict through the nonprofit aid organization, Women for Women International. (You can read more about that fundraising initiative here.)
Almost a year later, we continue to receive correspondence from the individuals whose lives were enriched through training and financial support. We have heard from 37 of the 40 women whom we sponsored, and we know that all 40 are busy learning new skills in training programs in Rwanda, Republic of Congo, and Afghanistan.
Most recently we received this letter:
Hello my dear sponsor. I am happy to write you this letter telling you what I have gained from the Women for Women training for the last 6 months.
I have learnt lessons about health and giving value housework, especially the one that bears profit, and saving with saving cycles. I used the stipend to grow potatoes. I have chosen to do a project of hair styling to promote myself, my family and my residential area. I will be working with my colleagues in a cooperative.
Thank you. Happy New Year.
Thank you to the hundreds of patrons and SWC members who made this possible. What an honor to use our voices, in some small way, to provide a woman with the opportunity to create sustainable change for herself. And we know Valentine’s story is repeated over and over in the thousands of lives touched by Women for Women International through fundraising campaigns and individual donors like our generous patrons and singers.
