Pageant, the Musical, written by two-time Tony nominee Bill Russell (Side Show) and Frank Kelly, and composed by Seattle treasure Albert Evans, debuted Off-Broadway in 1991 at the Blue Angel in New York and puts a high-heeled drag-spin on the competitive pageant scene. The show takes the audience on a drag-tastic adventure into the timeless world of the Miss Glamouresse Beauty Pageant.
This will be a production of PAGEANT unlike any ever done - one that honors the camp, fabulousness, and charm of the material while also bringing the show into the context of 2018. In a time where we are finally trying to empower women and their voices, how do we present a musical about a beauty contest where all the women are played by male-identified actors? By balancing these two ideas, our PAGEANT will give audiences the fun and laughs they expect but also leave them asking questions about how we, as a society, define feminine beauty.
