Our organization has a decades-long history of forming small vocal ensembles that enhance the concert experience for our audiences, expand our reach in the community, and diversify our musical stylings – Gentleman’s Harmony League, Philandros, Emerald City Volunteers, Zipper, AEdonis, Captain Smartypants, Sensible Shoes. But not since 2004 has SMC or SWC created a new group...until now.
For the past 6 months, chorus leadership has been working to design an exciting musical future, searching for a talented director to build upon that vision, cast singers from the larger choruses, and even begin rehearsing.
After all that, we'd like to introduce you to The Supertonics! This mixed ensemble includes members from both Seattle Women's Chorus and Seattle Men's Chorus - a first for us! The group is musically focused on singing tight-harmony a cappella repertoire. Don't know exactly what means? Think Pentatonix.
The Supertonics will be musical ambassadors for the choruses, performing at community events, connecting with other LGBTQ organizations and nonprofits, and serving the people that live in our region.
The inaugural line-up includes 16 members that have been singing with the choruses for as long as 31 years or only as recently as April: Nicholas Anderson, Cara Anderson-Ahrens, Colin Behl, Aaron Carasco, Rohan Chandra, Madeleine Hahn, Joel Kimmel-Staebler, Alex Kloehn, Jocelyn McNeil, David Nilsson, Carl Petrillo, Chelsea Quinn, Rene Salinas, Amanda Vilbrandt, Nicholas Wishaar, and Jennifer Younggren.
The Supertonics are directed by our newest staff member, Nikki Blackmer, who brings 15 years of experience singing, directing, and teaching a cappella music both locally and abroad. You can learn much more about Nikki here.
We can't wait to kick off a new chapter in our ensemble story!
