As community choruses, Seattle Men’s Chorus and Seattle Women’s Chorus are all about community. Building community is part of our mission statement. The variety of our singers is what makes us so vibrant, and makes it possible for us to truly connect with everyone in our audiences. Whether we are reveling together as we celebrate our joys, or comforting each other as we grieve our sorrows, we, chorus and audience, have been supporting each other through 40 years as a strong community does.
You are going to hear a lot about giving over the next few days as GiveBIG, Washington’s largest single giving day, coincides this year with international Giving Tuesday. What both movements are really about is community. Where GiveBIG focuses on individuals and organizations coming together to make an investment in our local communities, Giving Tuesday focuses on unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform our global communities.
As we all self-isolate to fight this pandemic, community has become more important than ever. Working together for the greater good is how we will not only survive this virus, but will become even stronger and more resilient than before. SMC and SWC are searching for and experimenting with new ways to continue to be there for you, our community, in this new pandemic environment. We trust that you will be there for us too, as you always have, with the same wonderful encouragement and support.
Whether you choose to support the Choruses through GiveBIG with a one-time gift, or honor Giving Tuesday with a recurring gift, know that you are not just helping us survive this crazy time, but also strengthening us to face whatever future challenges come our way. Together, as community, we will create a more harmonious world.
