Recently a group of us representing Seattle Women’s Chorus and Seattle Men’s Chorus had the outstanding opportunity to join dozens of Alaska Airlines employees in the delivery of a brand new 737-900 airplane from Boeing Field. I'm not kidding when I tell you it really had that new plane smell!
June is Pride month, so for the last two years Alaska Airlines has invited members of its LGBTQ employee group – GLOBE – to participate in this experience, and they’ve also invited a couple of their community partners.
Alaska Airlines has long been a wonderfully generous sponsor of our organization and we were delighted to get to be a part of this unique event.
We joined the GLOBE employees at Alaska’s corporate headquarters early in the afternoon. Then we all rode shuttles up to Boeing Field, where we got to explore the outside of the plane. What an incredible experience to stick your head up in the wheel well of a commercial airplane!
After taking photos outside the plane, we all were escorted onto the plane. We had assigned seats, and some of us even got to sit in first class (I was relegated to coach).
Eventually we took off from Boeing Field and flew west over the Olympics and out over the Pacific Ocean. We made a few turns and ultimately flew right down the Strait of Juan de Fuca, where we could see Port Angeles, Victoria, etc. before flying back down to Seatac. The shuttles then returned us to Alaska's corporate offices.
It was a gorgeous day for flying and seeing the mountains, ocean, islands, and all the beautiful scenery from thousands of feet in the air.
It was an honor to #FlyWithPride with Alaska Airlines, and we are grateful for this very special partnership.
Thank you, Alaska Airlines!
