SEATTLE, WA—Seattle Men’s Chorus (SMC) is set to perform Motown and More, a soulful celebration of the hit music that emerged from the 1960’s Detroit record label, launching some of the most successful Black artists of the 20th century and forever changing America. This concert has been a long time in the making after its previous cancelation when arts organizations shut down in spring of 2020. Following a successful return to stage in December 2021 for the annual holiday tradition, the collective voices of the chorus are ready to grace audiences once again.
SMC will be feature ensemble group, The Supertonics, and be joined by guest artists Robin and Alexandria J. Henderson. The mother and daughter duo will combine their acting and vocal talents to assist in bringing the story of this musical era to life.
A native of Louisville, KY, Robin Henderson sings with power and conviction. Lady Henderson has been highlighted on four Gospel Music Workshop of America albums. She won the 2006 McDonald’s Gospel Fest Northwest Female Soloist Award as well as ITM’s 2009 Gospel Soloist Female and 2011 Gospel Female and Female Soloist of the Year. She has been a featured performer with Seattle Women’s Chorus and Seattle Men’s Chorus and is currently making plans to record her fifth album.
Alexandria J. Henderson is a performing artist currently residing in south Puget Sound. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music – Vocal Performance, and is a recent graduate of the Atlantic Acting School’s Global Virtual Conservatory. Alexandria has been seen most recently as Woman 2 in Songs for a New World at Village Theatre; Elle Woods in Legally Blonde with Showtunes Theatre Company; Ali in The 5th Avenue Theatre’s Mamma Mia!; and Lorrell Robinson in Dreamgirls at Village Theatre, for which she won the 2017 Gregory Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Musical.
Tickets to the performances are $27-$89 and available at SeattleChoruses.org or via the phone at (206) 388-1400. The Seattle area box office is open Monday through Friday, 8AM – 3PM.
